LOOK: Grupo ng kapulisan sa Negros Oriental, nag-bayanihan para mabigyan ng disenteng tahanan sa isang matandang mag-asawa

We Filipinos are known for our love and care for our elderly family members, compared to other nations, Filipinos would rather sacrifice and look after the elders rather than send them in a home care and pay someone to take care of them.

But this love and innate care for elders is not only limited to every Filipino’s family member, each one of us has this soft spot when it comes to the elderly. This is the kindness exhibited by a group of policemen in Negros Oriental who did a “bayanihan” act for the welfare of a less fortunate elderly couple.

According to Facebook page PNP Pamplona, this bayanihan project started on June 30, 2018, when Pamplona Police Station chief Senior Inspector John Lynbert Yango together with his men were on their way back to the station after attending a meeting spotted an elderly couple resting outside their humble home.

Their small “barong’barong” captured the attention of the policemen and realized that it was not conducive to live in especially for an elderly couple like Romeo and Segundina Sarvida who were 75 and 72 years of age respectively.

Disheartened with the condition of the Sarvida couple, the group of policemen came up and idea to unite and build a small nipa hut which is decent enough to be called home by the couple.

“July 7, 2018 The Chief of Police and PO3 Dela Torre initiated the project. By the support of Personnel of this Station we produced the materials needed and brought it to the location of the old couple as recipient of the project and we entitled it as: Payag nga Gamay naghatag og dako nga Kalipay,” PNP Pamplona’s statement reads.

On the same day, members of the Pamplona PNP together with other barangay workers and several members of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) break a sweat together and build Tatay Romeo and Nanay Segundina’s humble home.

After more than 24 hours, they finished constructing the small, simple, yet comfortable nipa hut of the couple.
