Ever since the tough-talking leader from Davao City attempted to enter the national political scene, people have been tagging TV network giant, ABS-CBN as “ABiaS-CBN” for what they notice of obviously biased news reports of the network against incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte.
Netizens believe that ABS-CBN is one of the biased media networks who are against Duterte and his policies so it reflects the kind of coverage they present on both national television and radio.
But recently, a report aired on the network’s primetime newscast “shookt” the netizens, particularly the Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS) after what it seems to be a different tone and treatment in presenting his accomplishments in the past two years in office.
In the report entitled “SONASERYE: Batas na naipasa sa ilalim ng Duterte admin”, the network enumerated some of the Duterte administration’s accomplishment when it comes to the useful law that has been passed and prioritized under his leadership.
One of the law highlighted in the report is the Republic Act 11032 or Ease of Doing Business Act which aims to remove the “red tape” impression in some government agencies like Social Security System (SSS) where members can now enjoy easy and fast service.
“So yung leadership quality niya, ang kaniyang pamamaraan para maipatupad ang batas ang I think ang nakapag-instill ng disiplina sa ating mga kababayan, pati na sa aming mga kasapi sa SSS,” SSS President Emmanuel Dooc said in the report.
Other laws that were highlighted in the report were the TRAIN law which aims to ease the burden of taxpayers and the following:
Republic Act 10928 – An Act Extending the Validity of Philippine Passport,
a. Republic Act 10930 – An Act Extending the Validity Period of Driver’s License
b. Republic Act 10929 – Free Public Internet Access Law,
c. Republic Act 10932 – Anti-Hospital Deposit Law which is focused on the less fortunate people who does not have enough money to pay in hospitals during emergency cases,
d. Republic Act 10969 – Fee Irrigation Law for Filipino farmers,
e. Republic Act 11037 – National Feeding Program which promotes free feeding program for elementary students,
f. Republic Act 11036 – Mental Health Law which aims to make mental health care affordable,
g. Republic Act 10931 – Free Tertiary Education Law which gives free tuition fee to those students in state universities and colleges,
h. And the 6-month rehabilitation of Boracay Island
The report also highlighted a University of the Philippines’ political analysts view on how these and all other accomplishments became possible due to Duterte’s political will.
“When the administration came in initiatives towards improving processes, government procedures, and programs have already started. My sense it that has been accelerated because of the kind of leadership of the President himself, the persona and you can see this in many government agencies,” said Professor Ranjit Rye.
