Newborn babies should be treated with utmost care; aside from the fact that they could not be left alone at an early age, their body is also still adjusting to the real world as they used to be in their mother’s womb for 9 months.

But unfortunately, not all babies are lucky enough to experience this kind of treatment as soon as they came out of this world. Some suffer due to the recklessness of the parents, just like what happened to a baby boy who was left in the middle of a cemetery in Candelaria, Quezon.

“Initial investigation disclosed that at about 9:00 am, a resident heard a baby crying and when he looked around, he found the baby boy in between two tombs,” Calabarzon Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said.

Residents who found the baby immediately sent him to the home of barangay chairman Nelson Punzalan who bought the baby to Candelaria police station and eventually sent to Candelaria Rural Health Unit for a medical check-up.

On the same day, the baby was turned over to authorities, police have identified the mother who abandoned the two-month-old baby boy who will be facing criminal charges over the abandonment of the infant.

Lara Sentillas po ang name. Magco-coordinate po ang Candelaria police sa DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) para makasuhan,” Eleazar said.

Quezon Police District Senior Supt. Mon de Guzman said that Sentillas was identified after the baby boy’s grandmother Gloria Perez went to Candelaria police station.

Sentillas will face charges for violating the Republic Act No. 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law.
