The newly appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde slammed the members of the press after they asked the officer on the right of the policemen to exercise their freedom of speech.
The question prompted after Albayalde confirmed that the PNP identified almost 20 police officers bashing him on social media particularly on the Facebook page Buhay Lespu (a Filipino slang that means a police’s life). The Facebook page tackles the struggles of being a cop from their day-to-day dangerous operations up to the commanders they despise.

When the reporter asked if punishing such officers turned bashers of Albayalde is not a violation of their freedom of speech, this is what the PNP Chief has to say: “Kung gusto mo ng freedom of speech and then go out of the service. Sabi ko nga, even you as member of media, hindi ka kayo makapag- kung ano ang gusto ninyo sabihin eh!”
“So if you’re in an organization there are certain restrictions. Voluntary ang pagiging pulis, voluntary also yung pagpupunta mo sa uniformed service, so kung hindi ka makasunod sa polices, rules, and regulations o doon sa norms ng aming organization, then you can always go out,” he added.
Albayalde also confirmed that the 20 policemen will report in his office to teach them a lesson that the PNP does not allow any forms of “back fighting” within the organization.
Aside from reporting in his office, Albayalde also ordered the Directorate for Intelligence and Detective Management (DIDM) to conduct a separate investigation and file insubordination charges against those bashers.
