Barangay Chairman ng Rio Hondo, napangisi lang sa pagkakahulog ng ilang opisyal sa nasirang footbridge sa Zamboanga City

“Na-experience na nila kung gaano hindi de kalidad yung ginawang footbridge.”

This is the short yet very powerful message of Barangay Rio Hondo Chairman Rozdy Mukamar after two Congressmen and other city officials fell into murky water when a footbridge where they are passing by collapsed.

On Wednesday, photos and video of the collapsing footbridge at Zamboanga City immediately went viral on social media as netizens express both sympathy and humor for those officials who were victimized by their own low-cost projects.

The city officials include Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez and Zamboanga 1st district Rep. Celso Lobregat who were in the area conducting a site inspection of houses for residents displaced by the 2013 Zamboanga City siege.

In an interview with 24 Oras, Chairman Rozdy just gave a poker face and said that officials finally got a first-hand experience on the poorly constructed wooden bridge which often endangers the life of residents.

Reports state that residents in Barangay Rio Hondo have long been complaining about the weak footbridge that they sometimes repair themselves since the local government is not minding their complaints.
